    • As soon as possible, create your FAFSA ID. Help your child complete and submit their Financial Aid application through FAFSA. Use NMSU’s FAFSA Code, 002657, and fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to see if they qualify.

      Different Types of Aid
      • Grants – financial aid that doesn’t have to be repaid (unless, for example, you withdraw from school and owe a refund)
      • Scholarships – award of financial aid for a student to further their education, awarded based upon various criteria
      • Work-Study – a work program through which you earn money to help you pay for school
      • Loans – borrowed money for college or career school; you must repay your loans, with interest


    • Learn about the SAT/ACT exams for college admission. ACT requirement is 21.

    • Attend some of our college fairs with your child, but don’t take over the conversation with the college representatives. Just listen; let your child do the talking.

NMSU is a NASA Space Grant College and is home to the very first Honors College in New Mexico. A Hispanic-serving institution, NMSU serves a multi-cultural population of students and community members across the state at five campuses, a satellite learning center in Albuquerque, cooperative extension offices located in each of New Mexico’s 33 counties, and 12 agriculture research and science centers.
