Mission and Program Educational Objectives

 

Mission Statement: 

The Department of Engineering Technology and Survey Engineering (ETSE) mission is to provide a student-centric education through experiential learning to prepare students for a rewarding career. In particular, faculty work closely with students and each other to foster a family-like environment; unlike traditional engineering, core courses have labs with team projects and hands-on learning experiences; and graduates advance to enhanced career opportunities with competitive compensation.

Our goal is to help students from diverse backgrounds reach their potential and become successful engineers, technologists, and leaders in the region and nationwide.

The Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) are aligned with the Institution’s mission to serve the educational needs of New Mexico’s diverse population through comprehensive programs of education, research, extension education, and public service. As the state’s land grant university, it is the responsibility of educational programs, especially those in engineering technology, to prepare students to enter the local and regional workforce and engage them in community service along the way. And are further defined below:

Within a few years after graduation, graduates of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) program will demonstrate:
  1. The ability to expand their essential skills to effectively perform professional responsibilities, strengthening their technical expertise, effective leadership, and teamwork abilities.
  2. The capability to stay technically current and adapt to rapid industry changes through ongoing education, training, and both formal and informal mentorship opportunities.
  3. Continuous professional growth in their field, demonstrated by an increasing range of responsibilities and a transition into leadership roles while upholding ethical standards.
