Manufacturing is concerned with the many facets of making products. Manufacturing technologists are key people in the process that takes the design engineer's concept and specifications and helps to translate them into actual production of manufactured goods at the lowest possible cost. Manufacturing technologists direct and coordinate manufacturing processes in industrial plants. Technical areas of work encompass planning, production methods, fabrication, assembly, materials handling, scheduling, quality assurance, and a wide range of related manufacturing activities.
Due to the rapidly changing nature of modern plant manufacturing, the manufacturing technologist can expect to find diverse and challenging opportunities in both large and small industries. They can work in such areas as automated testing or product improvement. As technology grows more complex and competition becomes more keen, the demand for manfacturing technologists will continue to grow and to provide excellent job opportunities and salaries.
