Outcomes Assessment

Surveying Engineering

Program Educational Objectives

1.    NMSU Surveying Engineering program graduates will acquire the ability to become a licensed professional surveyor.

2.    NMSU Surveying Engineering program graduates will demonstrate leadership potential by either:

  • a) becoming professionally involved with a local, state, or national organization in a leadership role
  • b) advance to a supervisory position, or
  • c) own a surveying business

3.    NMSU Surveying Engineering program graduates will demonstrate growth and advancement in the surveying profession.

Student Learning Outcomes

To accomplish its mission, the Surveying Engineering Department will introduce students to the theory and application of recognized surveying principles. Graduates of the program will:

    1.    Acquire a sound and fundamental understanding of the scientific, mathematical, and engineering principles underlying surveying;

    2.    Acquire a breadth and depth of education to understand the economic, legal, political, and social context of surveying activities;

    3.    Develop the ability to appropriately collect, analyze, interpret, and apply survey and survey-related data;

    4.    Develop the ability to recognize, analyze, and solve survey and survey-related problems;

    5.    Acquire the verbal and written skills necessary to contribute productively to society;

    6.    Acquire an understanding of the responsibilities and ethics of surveying professionals;

    7.    Develop the ability to work on interdisciplinary teams; and

    8.    Recognize the need for and develop the ability to prepare for life-long study and learning.
