Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology

Civil Engineering Technology (CET)

  • CET students learn to implement current civil engineering practices in design, construction, and project management. They may assist with design and/or supervise the construction of roads, buildings, airports, dams, bridges; and water supply and sewage systems. They take courses in properties of construction materials, blueprint reading, surveying, applied structural design, highway technology, land development, and hydraulics. Our Civil Engineering Technology students also learn by designing and racing concrete canoes, designing and constructing rocket launch pads, competing in a national bidding competition every year in Reno NV, and building bridges in other countries!

  • Information Engineering Technology (IET)

  • IET students design the newest and most innovative technologies for multimedia, computer networks, computer forensics, and database technologies. They may upgrade computer hardware and software systems. Students might develop security protocols for computer networks and information systems. Additionally students might be a part of maintaining, designing and securing internet sites.

  • Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET)

  • MET students learn theory and application in the fields of manufacturing, product design and development, power systems, machinery, and fluid technology. Our students take courses in mechanisms and machines, computer aided modeling, heat transfer, and instrumentation, to name a few. They seek jobs in the design and testing of tools, engines, machines, and other mechanical devices. Mechanical Engineering Technology is one of the broadest engineering technology disciplines. Our Mechanical Engineering Technology students also learn by designing and racing mini-baja cars, designing and constructing machines to help our farmers, and building systems in other countries.

  • Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology

    Information and Communication Technology (ICT)

  • ICT is a distance education completion program which admits students who either already have an Associates Degree in an ICT related field or students who are ready to take junior and senior level courses. The ICT curriculum covers the topics and concepts that are required to design, implement, and manage a variety of computer-based information systems. The ICT curriculum also includes the study of computer hardware, application and operating systems software, system integration, database design and management, networking, and network security. Graduates can expect to fill positions with titles such as Information Technologist, Project Manager, Systems or Network Administrator, Computer Support Specialist, and Database Administrator.

    Surveying Engineering (SUR)

  • Whether defining the shape of a nation or determining the path of a new highway, our world is defined through surveying. Surveying engineers analyze, design, and execute surveying and mapping projects which help to define the world in which we live. Students in this program take courses in Photogrammetry, boundary surveying, construction surveying, and geodesy to name a few. In addition to knowledge of the mathematical and computational methods involved in surveying measurement and analysis, surveyors must also have an understanding of the legal principles of boundary location, the laws related to boundaries and land use. Our students may be involved in the American Congress on Surveying and Mapping/New Mexico Professional Surveyors student chapter and participate in exciting competitions each year.
